The book details my life between the ages of 14 – 19. A lot happened during this time period. One could say, this period of my life directly shaped me into the person I am today. Though very eventful (and at times very challenging) there is not a single aspect I would change from that time period. We learn from life’s experiences and the bad, can help us truly understand the good.
Why Have I Chosen To Write A Book?
I have many reasons for writing the book. The main reason is I wanted something credible/ tangible that my children could hold onto. One day they can share this with their children ‘God Willing’ so as to create a infinite legacy for us – The Zampaladus Family.
Another reason for writing the book ensures I can leave something of great significance for my extended family and friends. They must have wondered what happened to us when we took off in 1994 and our experiences in relation to our new life. I wrote this book as a throwback to people’s perception of ‘Horsey People’, the Equestrian World. In Antigua I felt free to be myself, working with horses. Whilst over here being the person I was, subsequently I felt isolated, alienated, lonely and uncomfortable working in this field. However negative emotions can been turned into positive ones. The end result being fulfillment. An integral part of that fulfillment is to use my knowledge and passion of equestrianism. My current drive to set up the ‘We Ride Too Academy’ and write this book helps to somewhat alleviate those past feelings. I understand others have also felt it. Helping others progress to a more positive and fulfilling life – I am humbled and fortunate to be a part of that process.
Overcoming the greatness of hardships, tough challenges and obstacles, were the driving forces for me writing this book. You may find reading the book a catalyst for yourself to reflect on similar emotions and life challenges you’ve faced. I as young man at the time was taken from the UK, to what at the time I perceived as a foreign land. Maybe you have face a similar situation or know somebody that has.
Lastly, simply for the love of horses. I may not fall under the perception of being your stereotypical Equestrian enthusiast – however I challenge anybody to say they are more ‘horsey than me’.
Zampaladus Is More Than My Name
My surname Zampaladus is unique in that nobody else in the world has it. How did this happen? Well my father was very much into the ‘Civil Rights Movement’ and decided he would change his name like Malcolm X. Rather than change it to one word he decided on something much more…….. How would I say it…………… Catchy!!
I hope this book can be a tool of inspiration!
Wadadli I thank you for the experiences.
